Acerak

(aka Acererak) Acerak is the BBE at the end of ToA. He also appears as a skull only in TftYP p226.

Stats are on ToA p209 (CR23)

Chultans

Perne Salhana

Perne Salhana is a Paladin Veteran, one of the right hand men of Commander Breakbone of the Order of the Gauntlet, who led the party to the lost temple of Tamoachan (mistaking it as Omu).

He is only in Chult to attempt to rid the world of the Death Curse.

Salhana's Stats

  • 58 HP
  • Long Sword, +5, d8+3 (2 attack)
  • Divine Smite (+2d8), Lay on Hands (pool 25 HP), Shield of Faith (+2AC), Aura of Protection (+1 Saves self+10')

Guides

Qawasha

the druid and his vegepygmie, Kupalue which Lakdorf thinks looks edible.

Withers

Withers works for Acererak, and is detailed on page 145 of Tomb of Annihilation, in the section titled “Withers' Office.” This is where you'll find his description and role within the tomb.

Withers Stats

He's a level 9 spellcasting wight, and requires silver weapon attacks.

Eemmaat has been bringing abducted dwarves to Withers for conversion into Tomb Dwarves. In their eerie surroundings, the faint scraping of tomb dwarves working in the background can be heard in the darkness.

“Do you not see the brilliance of it all? Acererak, my Eternal Architect, has granted me a purpose beyond the fleeting dust of mortal existence. I was once like you — limited, ephemeral, clinging to a life that the sands of time would inevitably sweep away. But Acererak offered me liberation, enlightenment! In his service, I have become a steward of eternity, a part of something vast and unending.

This position of mine - it is not mere servitude — no, it is transcendence. Acerak has seen what others cannot fathom. Where you might see cruelty in this tomb, I see artistry, ingenuity, and the inevitability of power. Acererak reshapes the fabric of existence itself, and I am but one piece in his magnificent tapestry.

Would you throw that away? Would you squander such a gift, given the chance? Fools!, you rage against the tide, blind to the glory of the ocean it feeds.”

Baldur's Gate & Elturel

Thavius Kreeg

from Avernus Remix Among the rumors and other discussions, make sure to repeatedly establish that Thavius Kreeg was (a) the High Observer of Elturel and (b) he’s missing and presumed lost with the city. (We’ll discuss this more in Part 3, but you want to firmly establish these facts so that the players will understand the significance of finding Kreeg alive later.)

THE SOLUTIONS: The PCs will be able to gather clues to the first two revelations (What happened to Elturel? and Why did this happen?) throughout Part 3: The Vanthampur Investigations

Harpers

Renaer is a Harper.

Innocence is an initiate, but not yet fully trusted.

Lione

Lione is a popular bard, but not for his musical skills. His prodigious lyricism often proves useful in documentation.

Tymantherian

The Dragonborn aristocracy of Tymanther is the homeland of Malmac.

Vorzric

Vorzric is Malmac's estranged father.

At the age of 12, Vorzric, had become ashamed of his son's impulsive actions, and in frustration sent the boy off with Nadaar, the great adventurer. Though infuriated me, Malmac obeyed his father's orders.

For 5 years Malmac travelled under Nadaar's stern tutelage, where he grew in discipline, skill, and honour, but on his return home, my Vorzric was still mistrustful of his changed ways. There was a great argument and Malmac swore to not reenter Tymanther until Vorzric apologized. His sister Adgrah is furious with him.

Hama

Malmac seeks Hama Pashar, a female human paladin, of Nadaar’s Party who was recently known to have been in Waterdeep. Hama Pashar has come to search for Nadaar because she believes he has entered undermountain. (He left her a clue, knowing her honor would demand she track him, but he built in delays into the clues to give himself a headstart)

Nadaar

Malmac's mentor. Some time ago, Nadaar began to experience things which led him to beleive he was developing lycanthropy. Some research led him to the story of Urtos III, who Nadaar suspects may be immortal, and he is now trying to track him down.

At Phylund Lodge he discovered a map which led him to the secret river passage and into Undermountain(level 3, DOTMM p45 waterfall dumps just upstream of loc 16b. He left the gnoll inhabitants of Phylund intact to reduce the chances of being followed by anyone else.

Hama or Malmac will eventually find Nadaar who is on the verge of finding Urtos's secret

Gods

Atropol

A disgusting half formed fetal god. He is the aborted offspring of Asmodeus and Istus, whom he hates and has vowed to destroy.

Acerak the Lich foolishly believes he can control Atropol and is trying to raise it.

If Atropal reaches a certain strength, Asmodeus and Istus will become aware (and annoyed) of his presence.

Asmodeus

Asmodeus and Istus are the parents of Atropal, who they left for dead. Nobody is supposed to know this, but rumors abound in hell. A demon named Zalekoth has been sent to Chult to corroborate the rumor.

Ender & Calcifer have some sort of preexisting deal with Asmodeus. Calcifer was sent by Asmodeus to corrupt Ender, but the plan backfired and is doing more good than harm. This information has not yet trickled up the chain to Asmodeus, and has immense blackmail potential. In any case, Calcifer will automatically return to the material plane if he dies, as he is not supposed to be resting in hell, but out working.

Asmodeus is connected to the Waterdeep Dragon Heist by way of Ammalia and Victoro Cassalanter who, facing imminent bankruptcy, struck a deal with him. Asmodeus will take possession of the Cassalanter twins upon their upcoming twelfth bithday (unless their parents can bribe him with uncountable wealth (which they currently do not have (which is why they seek the stone of Golorr)))

Apparently Baldur's Gate has a portal to hell?

Zalekoth

Spined Devil (Spinagon) MM78

The party runs into Zalekoth near the top of Tamoachan. He has come from hell to investigate the rumours about Atropal.

Asmodeus was alerted by the myriad pinprick starts of summoning circles that appear whenever a good mortal is murdered. (Descent Into Avernus 212)

Istus

Istus is a goddess of fortune and fate, served by Ak and perhaps a very few other scattered clerics, but her fame failed to blossom and has faded into obscurity.

Asmodeus and Istus are the parents of Atropal
